We wanted to share a quick update about dangerous driving in your area. Please be assured we’re working to keep everyone safe. Dear Sanderstead Resident,
Dangerous and anti-social driving continues to be a concern for residents across Sanderstead Ward, with reports highlighting excessive speed, reckless manoeuvres, and driving behaviour that poses a risk to pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. Following engagement with local residents, ward councillors, and neighbourhood watch groups, several locations have been identified as potential hotspots requiring targeted enforcement and monitoring.
The roads currently identified as areas of concern are:
Norfolk Avenue Limpsfield Road Onslow Gardens Mitchley Avenue
To address these issues, the Safer Neighbourhood Team will work in partnership with Roads and Transport Policing colleagues to undertake a series of proactive measures aimed at improving road safety and reducing instances of dangerous driving. These actions may include:
Targeted speed enforcement operations at identified hotspot locations. High-visibility police patrols during peak periods when dangerous driving is most frequently reported. Deployment of speed monitoring equipment and traffic surveys to gather evidence and identify patterns of offending. Engagement with local residents to encourage the reporting of offences and to better understand community concerns. Joint working with the local authority to assess whether additional traffic calming measures, signage, or other engineering solutions may be beneficial.
The objective of this initiative is to deter dangerous driving, improve compliance with speed limits and traffic regulations, and enhance the overall safety and confidence of residents using the ward's roads. Intelligence gathered through enforcement activity and community feedback will continue to inform policing priorities, ensuring resources are directed towards locations where they can have the greatest impact.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting persistent concerns and providing information regarding offending vehicles, as community intelligence remains a key factor in assisting police efforts to tackle dangerous driving and improve road safety throughout Sanderstead Ward.
kind regards, Sanderstead Safer Neighbourhoods Team.
If someone is driving a motor vehicle, they should always be doing so in a safe and considerate manner. Even momentary lapses in judgement can have life changing or devastating consequences for those in the vehicle or innocent bystanders. Activities such as street racing, cruising or performing tricks can count as anti-social behaviour. If you are concerned about this in your area, visit our website for the latest guidance.
